I really love business!
The other day I was thinking about why this is so, what is about business that gets me so excited to sit down and want to write a blog that tells the world about it.
Here are my top 5 reasons I love business.
1. Its the ultimate personal development course.
When you are a business owner, there is no hiding, at least not for long. The buck will always stop with you. Whether we like it or not, life is always pushing us to grow. The thing about business is you get a say in how you want to grow. Challenges in business are not there to break us, they are there to reveal us to ourselves. This revelation helps you identify your weaknesses and what you need to work on. At the end of the day, a business is a reflection of the owner.
2. You get to serve the world while the world serves you
We all have unique skills, talents and abilities that allow us to produce products or services. We then have the opportunity to provide the output of these skills, talents and abilities to provide something unique to the world through our business. In return the world pays us for this. The key is to find something that fulfils as you provide it to the world. Anyone who has ever been super successful at anything, fell in love with the process, not the end result. With business, you can get paid handsomely in return for serving the world.
3. You get to change the lives of your team
When you build a business you are going to need people to help you. The ripple effect of recruiting and building an amazing team is huge. As you grow as a business owner (see point 1), you provide the opportunity for your team to do the same. They can then gain fulfilment for themselves, which in turn flows on to their family and friends, also whilst being paid handsomely when they are providing tremendous value to their market place.
4. You get to contribute to and help your community
I firmly believe in the ethos, "stronger communities through stronger businesses". By running and growing a great business you provide local jobs (see point 3), you get to provide a great product or service to your community, you are able to keep money circulating within your community helping to build it as it circulates and you are able to help those less fortunate. All of these then result in safer stronger communities to raise our kids.
5. It allows you to be a great role model to your kids.
I don't think it is a coincidence it is a coincidence that some of the greatest kids I have met have parents who are business owners. To be a great business owner, fundamentally you need to be a great person. You need to be an amazing communicator, you need to be able to take full ownership and responsibility for your business and life, you need to have initiative and a good attitude even when things are not going how you want them to. Our kids watch us like hawks, we are who they learn and get their references from. Building a great business gives your kids a great reference for all these traits.
Building and running a business is not easy, in fact its bloody tough and its not for everyone and that is OK. But if you are thinking about getting into business or already have your own, I hope this blog has enthused you about business and the amazing opportunity it provides for the right people.
